Hofsas House Happiness

There are times in your life when you really need a vacation. And there are also times in your life when you really need some wine and cheese, likely in that order. And there are definitely times in your life when you wish there were more pink buildings in the world.

Enter Hofsas House, a boutique family-owned hotel in Carmel by the Sea, California. I was thrilled to accept a complimentary stay from the family that owns Hofsas House and even more thrilled to visit a place I had never been before. Almost everyone I asked had nothing but good things to say about Carmel by the Sea and I enjoyed the scenery on the road trip!

I was introduced to Hofsas House by general manager/owner Carrie Theis, who is also the granddaughter of the woman who founded Hofsas House, Donna Hofsas. Hofsas House has been in the family for decades, and you can definitely feel the family warmth in the office- everyone is quick to offer coffee, recommendations, and plenty of stories about the area. Carrie also provided some amazing Monterey wine and cheese for my arrival!

My room at Hofsas House was top notch- balcony and fireplace included. Furthermore, the Hofsas House building is pale pink and adorned with art by Maxine Albro, a Diego Rivera contemporary. The hotel is a welcome break from many of the cookie cutter options out there- you can tell it's a family owned business and every room is unique. This boutique operation is a perfect fit for the relaxing vibe in Carmel by the Sea, and Hofsas House really does embody the hotel's slogan: "European elegance with the warmth of family hospitality". Also the building is pink. Did I mention that already?

Hofsas House does also provide free parking, free continental breakfast, a heated pool plus dry saunas, and plenty of discounts for local attractions, from wine tastings and spas to the Monterey aquarium. Overall, Hofsas House definitely rates as limerence worthy lodging!
